Coil, ‘And The Ambulance Died In His Arms’, Threshold House, 2005

Profético título tiene este último álbum del dúo cuando aún Geoff Rushton aka Jhonn Balance estaba en vida y no ocurría todavía esa caída fatal que lo llevó a la muerte.
Este disco que consta de 5 temas fue grabado en vivo durante una presentación del grupo en el festival All Tomorrow's Parties festival, que se llevó a cabo el 6 abril de 2003 en el Camber Sands Holiday Centre, en Inglaterra. Los curadores de este evento fue el dúo Autechre.
La música en este disco nos sitúa cerca de la época de “Musick To Play in the Dark” en la que Coil vierte sus influencias en la electrónica análoga de los ‘70. Aunque por supuesto que sus exploraciones orgánicas a través de una electrónica sinuosa, tortuosa y oscura están presentes.
“Triple Sun Introduction” es una pieza de carácter ambiental en la que se desarrolla una vacilante marimba, sonidos guturales de Balance y una percusión resonante y ciertamente ruidosa. Los timbres son como luces que tintinean con su brillo el oscuro espacio sideral de Coil.
Esta intención de hacer un concierto ambiental lo dice el propio Balance: “Estamos haciendo hoy una presentación más calmada… hemos tenido mucha bulla el pasado año”. En tanto que el público le pedía algo más “fuerte”… Con este preámbulo parte “A Slip in the Marylebone Road” el que marca un beat sostenido pero controlado, mientras Balance relata un sueño sobre el robo a una droguería y sampleos de cánticos árabes se dejan escuchar suministrados por Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson.
"Triple Sons and the One You Bury" Balance narra una historia de un entierro, lo que parece ser un discurso entre recuperar la vida y la muerte, mientras los arreglos son una dulce marimba y ruidos eléctricos. Finalmente Coil hace una nueva versión de "The Dreamer is Still Asleep" que aparece en el volumen 1 de "Musick To Play In The Dark" y que ahora agregan a dicho título: “The Somnambulist in an Ambulance”, lo que también vendría a ser un presagio de lo que sucedería un año después.

A quite prophetic title has the latest Coil album when still Geoff Rushton aka Jhonn Balance was alive before that fatal fall that took him to death. This disc that consists of five tracks was recorded during a live performance of the group in All Tomorrow's Parties Festival on 6 April of 2003 at the Camber Sands Holiday Centre, England. This event was curated by Autechre.
The music in this disc is closed to ‘Musick To Play in the Dark’-era in which Coil spills their influences of the 70s analogue electronica. Of course are present their organic explorations through a winding, quirky and dark electronics. ‘Triple Sun Introduction’ is an ambient piece that stars with notes from a vacillating marimba, guttural sounds from Balance’s voice and a percussive clatter certainly noisy is happening. The timbres are like lights that illuminate the dark sidereal of Coil.
The intention to make an ambient concert is a statement that Balance did: ‘we’re doing a quiet set today... we've had too much shouting over the past year.’ While the audience requested him for something much ‘louder’... With this intro starts ‘A Slip in the Marylebone Road’ which is marked by a soft beat while Balance sings about a dream he had of the robbery to a drugstore and samples of Arab chants are provided by Peter 'Sleazy' Christopherson.
On ‘Triple Sons and the One You Bury’ Balance narrates a history of a burial, which seems to be a speech between a life recovering and death, wrapped up by arrangements of shimmering marimba and electric noises. Finally Coil makes a new version of ‘The Dreamer is Still Asleep’ originally included on ‘Musick To Play In The Dark Vol. 1’ album and now add to this title: ‘The Somnambulist in an Ambulance’, which also would be a presage of tragic events to come the next year.
