Wolf Eyes es un grupo de música experimental de Detroit, Michigan, formado en 1996 por Nate Young. En el que participaron Aaron Dilloway, James Baljo, John Olson y Mike Connelly. Actualmente lo componen Young y Olson. 

Su producción de discos ha sido muy prolífica, con más de 340 lanzamientos como Wolf Eyes y en colaboración con otros artistas.

Como fuente de inspiración para este disco influyó fuertemente conocer la spoken-word de los surrealistas de Chicago de los ’60, a través de la exhibición Surrealism Beyond Borders del MET que se estaba llevando a cabo, mientras el dúo realizaba una residencia en la Biblioteca Pública de Nueva York a principios de 2022. Cuando emergieron, los spoken-word no sólo tenían un tono poético, sino también contestario al sistema y a la sociedad.

Para la residencia Wolf Eyes creó nuevos instrumentos en exclusiva para la División de Música y Sonido Grabado y se grabó un LP de edición limitada utilizando solo estos instrumentos y se la dispuso al público de forma gratuita toda la edición, la que ahora es parte de la colección permanente de la Biblioteca. Se espera que los sonidos sean de inspiración para las próximas generaciones.

En este álbum se presenta una amalgama de ruidos producidos por sintetizadores y otros dispositivos analógicos, instrumentos inventados por el dúo, el recitado de spoken-word y grabaciones de campo. La apertura con “Car Wash Two” w/ Short Hands fue grabado en una máquina de lavado de autos que recuerda el trabajo de Graham Lambkin. La compleja madeja sonora de modulaciones, osciladores y reverberaciones se unen también a flautas (o similares) y otros instrumentos de viento, como en “Plus Warning”. En “Engaged Withdrawal” el oboe de Olson muestra un estribillo que lo acompaña un pulso rítmico repetitivo. “My Whole Life” despliega un ritmo entrecortado para dar paso a una frase semi cantada. “The Museums We Carry” parece la banda sonora para una película de suspenso, en tanto se producen tonos vacilantes. En “Find You (Vocal)” se puede apreciar el influjo de “Mix-Up” de Cabaret Voltaire con las baterías programables y las sinuosas y oscuras líneas del sintetizador. “Dreams in Shattered Time” que cierra este disco, - que marca los 25 años de arte y música - despliega latigazos sintéticos abrasivos y chisporroteos eléctricos punzantes que vienen a corroborar la permanente exploración sonora de este combo de power electronics con música de ruido, ondas de retroalimentación estáticas y chirriantes, sintetizadores analógicos que producen pulsos de subgraves o sonidos chirriantes de alta frecuencia, con voces gritadas y distorsionadas.

Wolf Eyes is an experimental music group from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 1996 by Nate Young. Also Aaron Dilloway, James Baljo, John Olson and Mike Connelly were members. Currently is made up of Young and Olson.

Their record output has been very prolific, with over 340 releases as Wolf Eyes and in collaboration with other artists.

As sources of inspiration for this album was the spoken-word of the Chicago surrealists of the 1960s as a strongly influenced, through the MET's Surrealism Beyond Borders exhibition that was taking place in early 2022, while the duo was in a residency at the New York Public Library. These spoken-word not only had a poetic tone, but also a manifestation against the system and society.

For the residency Wolf Eyes created new instruments exclusively for the Music & Recorded Sound Division and a limited-edition LP was recorded using only these instruments and the entire edition was made available to the public for free, which is now part of the Library permanent collection and it is hoped that these sounds will be an inspiration for the next generations.

This album presents an amalgamation of noises produced by synthesizers and other analog devices, instruments self-built by the duo, spoken-word recitation and field recordings. The opening with “Car Wash Two” w/ Short Hands was recorded in a car wash machine station, and evoke Graham Lambkin’s work. The complex sound skein of modulations, oscillators and reverberations is also joined by flutes (or similar) and other wind instruments, as in “Plus Warning”. On “Engaged Withdrawal” Olson's oboe shows a refrain that is accompanied by a repetitive rhythmic pulse. “My Whole Life” displays a choppy rhythm giving way to a semi-sung phrase. “The Museums We Carry” sounds like the soundtrack to a thriller, as wavering tones are produced. In “Find You (Vocal)” you can appreciate the influence of “Mix-Up” by Cabaret Voltaire with the programmable drums and the sinuous and the synthesizer dark lines. "Dreams in Shattered Time" that closes this album, - mark 25 years of art, and music - displays abrasive synthetic whiplashes and stinging electric crackles that corroborate the permanent sonic exploration of this power electronics combo unfolding noise, static, screeching waves of feedback, analogue synthesizers making sub-bass pulses or high frequency squealing sounds, with screamed and distorted vocals.
