El destacado sello nigeriano con base en Kampala, Nyege Nyege Tapes, difunde el hip-hop, afrobeat y su música tradicional mezclándola con beats electrónicos y técnicas de sonido.

Nakibembe Embaire Group, se compone principalmente de 8 músicos que residen el reino Busoga en Uganda, quienes debutan con su álbum “Nakibembe Embaire Group” en Nyege Nyege Tapes. 

Este álbum gira en torno al instrumento musical Embaire, un xilófono de al menos dos metros de largo que tiene entre 15 y 25 teclas de madera y es exclusivo de los Basoga, un grupo étnico bantú del este de África. La música tiene características polirítmicas, donde primeras voces - en un mayor volumen - repiten frases, mientras el resto de los músicos le responden en Lusoga (lengua tonal hablada en Uganda). Además, hay acompañamiento de maracas y tambores. Los Basoga tiene una forma única y exclusiva para tocar el embaire, con su propia afinación y bailes.

El LP homónimo contiene cinco tracks del grupo y otros tres en colaboración con el trío indonesio, Gabber Modus Operandi y Harsya Wahono, artista de Jakarta, Indonesia.

Nakibembe Embaire Group, es uno de los últimos grupos restantes que actúan con el embaire, con el que despliegan una música de ritual en la que prevalece una amplia variedad de timbres y resonancias. Sumergirse en esta música es dejarse llevar por un ritmo constante que invita sentirse en un trance y experimentar una experiencia mística. Otra dimensión es la que proponen pistas como “140 (with Gabber Modus Operandi & Wahono)”, “160 (with Gabber Modus Operandi & Wahono)” y “133 (with Gabber Modus Operandi & Wahono)”, que son pasados por una interface electrónica, generando pesados bombos y ritmos contundentes, creando con así un ambiente inquietante y oscuro.

Leading Kampala-based Nigerian label Nyege Nyege Tapes spreads hip-hop, afrobeat and their traditional music by mixing it with electronic beats and sound techniques.

Nakibembe Embaire Group, consists mainly of eight musicians based in the Busoga kingdom in Uganda, who debut with their album “Nakibembe Embaire Group” on Nyege Nyege Tapes.

This album revolves around the Embaire musical instrument, a xylophone at least two meters long that has between 15 and 25 wooden keys and is unique to the Basoga, a Bantu ethnic group from East Africa. The music has polyrhythmic characteristics, where the first voices - in a higher volume - repeat phrases, while the rest of the musicians reply in Lusoga (tonal language spoken in Uganda). Furthermore, there is accompaniment of maracas and drums. The Basoga have a unique and exclusive way to play the Embaire, with their own tuning and dances.

The self-titled LP contains five tracks by the group and another three in collaboration with the Indonesian trio, Gabber Modus Operandi and Harsya Wahono, an artist from Jakarta, Indonesia.

Nakibembe Embaire Group, is one of the last remaining groups that perform with the Embaire, with which they display ritual music in which unfold a wide range of timbres and resonances. Immersing yourself in this music is to be carried away by a constant rhythm that invites the listener to feel in a trance and mystical experience. Another dimension is the one proposed by tracks like “140 (with Gabber Modus Operandi & Wahono)”, “160 (with Gabber Modus Operandi & Wahono)” and “133 (with Gabber Modus Operandi & Wahono)”, which are passed through an electronic interface, generating heavy drums and forceful rhythms, thus creating a disturbing and dark atmosphere.
