El DJ y productor chileno Mente3000 ha estado activo hace tres décadas. A principios de los ’90 nuestro protagonista estaba permanentemente en búsqueda de conocer nueva música, ávido coleccionista de música que traía en aquel entonces la mítica disquería chilena Background, de la que otrora Hugo Chávez era su dueño, es considerado una leyenda de la música underground. Años más tarde (2002-2009) Mente3000 decide radicarse en Barcelona donde fundó su sello Fueradeserie! dedicado a la electrónica que publicó discos de Anders Ilar, Monoceros y Esqueleto, entre otros proyectos.

Mente3000 ha publicado temas en sellos como Hyperboloid, No Problema Tapes, Postworld y Tsa Records. Desde 2017 dirige su sello Infinito Audio Network con 40 referencias publicadas y tiene una residencia mensual en la radio Hong Kong Community Redio (www.hkcr.live). También contribuyó a las estaciones de radio como Cómeme, Noods, Rinse FR, Kiosk. En mayo próximo vuelve a radicarse en Barcelona para potenciar su sello y sus performances como DJ.

“Street Knowledge 93” es el primer disco EP de Mente3000, un hito importante es su trayectoria musical que incluye el track original que da título a este disco y remezclas de varios artistas publicados en Infinito... como Hyper john, Pondus, Digitonica, Beatrix Weapons y P0brediabla. 

Las principales influencias musicales de Mente3000 han sido sin duda artistas como Richard D. James (Aphex Twin), Mike Paradimas (Uziq) y la camada de músicos de la “Artificial Intelligent” del mítico sello Warp. 

La melosa nota del sintetizador es el punto de partida de este EP, evoca los primeros discos de Aphex Twin, con su bella y arremolinada melodía para luego entrar en una madeja de breaks y bajos profundos con reminiscencias del drum’n’bass. Luego se suceden varias remezclas. Comienza Hyper john quien profundiza los ritmos entrecortados del jungle haciendo un paréntesis etéreo con la melancólica nota del sinte. Los teclados de Digitonica Remix revolotean creando sonidos orgánicos discordantes para luego dar paso a líneas sintéticas que quedan suspendidas en el aire. Continua Beatrix Weapons Remix con contundentes bajos y breaks, mientras que el track de P0brediabla Remix que cierra este EP es un conjunto de percusiones frenéticas como si fueran disparos que se combinan con el sonido de una caja de música. Todo ello crea una atmósfera enrarecida y convulsionada. Mente3000 da el primer paso como creador de su propia música, ahora el segundo paso, me parece que es producir nuevos tracks como Mente3000.

Chilean DJ and producer Mente3000 has been active for three decades. In the early '90s our protagonist was permanently searching new music, an avid music record collector who brought back the legendary Chilean record shop Background, owned by Hugo Chávez, considered a legend of underground music. Later between 2002-2009 Mente3000 decided to settle in Barcelona where he founded label Fueradeserie! label dedicated to electronica releasing records by Anders Ilar, Monoceros and Esqueleto, among other artists.

Mente3000 has published tracks on labels such as Hyperboloid, No Problema Tapes, Postworld and Tsa Records. Since 2017 he runs the Infinito Audio Network label with 40 releases so far and holds a monthly residency at Hong Kong Community Radio (www.hkcr.live). He also contributed to radio stations like Cómeme, Noods, Rinse FR, Kiosk. Next May he returns to Barcelona to promote his label and the performances as a DJ.

"Street Knowledge 93" is the first EP release by Mente3000, an important milestone is his musical career that includes that includes the original track that gives title to this release plus remixes by various artists published on Infinito... such as Hyper john, Pondus, Digitonica, Beatrix Weapons and P0brediabla.

The main musical influences on Mente3000 have undoubtedly been musicians in the likes of Richard D. James (Aphex Twin), Mike Paradimas (Uziq) and artists of the “Artificial Intelligent” compilation on the legendary Warp label.

The honeyed note of the synthesizer is the starting point that opens this EP conjure up the first Aphex Twin albums, with its gorgeous and swirling melody to later enter a skein of breaks and deep bass reminiscent of the drum'n'bass style. Then several remixes follow one another starting with Hyper john who deepens the jerky jungle rhythms making an ethereal parenthesis with the melancholic synth note. Digitonica Remix's keyboards flutter creating discordant organic sounds to then give way to synthetic lines suspended in the air. Beatrix Weapons Remix continues with forceful basses and breaks, while the P0brediabla Remix track that closes this EP, is a set of frenetic percussion as if they were shots that are combined with the sound of a music box. All this creates a rarefied and convulsed atmosphere. Mente3000 takes the first step as a producer of his own music, now the second step, it seems to me, is to produce new tracks like Mente3000.
