Este es el seudónimo de los trabajos en solitario del guitarrista acústico y multiinstrumentista inglés Andy Cartwright quien actualmente reside en los Alpes del Sur de Francia.
“Of No Such Place” es su décimo tercer lanzamiento en solitario y se publica en Laaps, sello hermano de IIKKI y Eilean Rec. El resto de su discografía ha sido editada en Dead Pilot Records, Bookmaker Records, Lost Tribe Sound, Eilean Rec., IIKKI y Fluid Audio. Cartwright ha participado en festivales y eventos en Europa y varias de sus canciones se incluyen en documentales, películas y danza contemporánea.
La forma de trabajar de nuestro protagonista es utilizando técnicas para tocar con las uñas y el arco y en esta nueva entrega toca guitarras, grabaciones de campo, clarinete, cuenco, platillos, efectos y mezcla. En varias canciones (1,2,3,5 y 6) colabora en contrabajo, Phil Cassel.
Como siempre cada lanzamiento de Lapps se edita con cuidadas carátulas, en CD y en vinilo, que este caso, en un precioso vinilo color plata.
Desde la apertura de este disco con “Of No Such Place” Seabuckthorn nos invita a observar bellos paisajes sonoros con el sonido de objetos que tintinean y ese maravilloso arco que toca el banjo se desplaza con elegancia y me evoca a Stars Of The Lid. El ruido imperceptible que se parece al correr del agua en “Hand In The Upward Sky”, propone un entorno de algún lugar retirado y lejano, junto al canto de pájaros y las texturas de las cuerdas. En “The Furnace And The Stillness” el crujir de alguna puerta o ventana, es el telón de fondo que acompaña los acordes del banjo además de los efectos de delay. El arco que Cartwright desliza en el banjo es como un fuelle que se expande y se contrae. Sutiles punteos al contrabajo marcan un ritmo sigiloso e inquietante en “Jagged Horizon”. En “Wayward” emergen los suaves sonidos del cuenco junto a las delicadas notas de la guitarra. En “Rest House” los parsimoniosos acordes de la guitarra acústica develan una atmósfera sosegada. Mientras en “The Day Before” el arco frota sobre el banjo produciendo deslizantes y complejos diálogos. “So It Remains” que cierra este álbum continua desplegando los efectos sobre las cuerdas como una marea de ondas sonoras.
Cartwright hace un trabajo elaborado y cuidadoso creando finas texturas acústicas y electrónicas, incorporando el ambiente sonoro que le rodea.

This is the alias of the solo works of English acoustic guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Andy Cartwright who currently is based in the Alps of the South of France.
“Of No Such Place” is his thirteenth solo release and is published on Laaps, sister label to IIKKI and Eilean Rec. His discography has been released on Dead Pilot Records, Bookmaker Records, Lost Tribe Sound, Eilean Rec., IIKKI and Fluid Audio. Cartwright has performed in festivals and events in Europe and several of his songs are included in documentaries, films and contemporary dance.
Our protagonist's way of working uses finger picking and bowing techniques and in this new installment he plays guitars, field recordings, clarinet, tongue drum, cymbals, effects and mixing. In several songs (1,2,3,5 and 6) Phil Cassel plays double bass.
As always, each Lapps release is release with careful and refine art-covers, on CD and on vinyl and in this case, on a beautiful silver colored vinyl.
From the opening of this album with “Of No Such Place” Seabuckthorn invites to listen to beautiful soundscapes with the sound of objects that tinkle and that wonderful bow that the banjo plays move elegantly that reminds me of Stars Of The Lid. The imperceptible noise that resembles rushing water in “Hand In The Upward Sky” suggests an environment of somewhere secluded and far away, along with chirping birds and guitar chords textures. In “The Furnace And The Stillness” the creak sound of a door or window is the background that accompanies the banjo chords as well as the delay effects. The bow that Cartwright slides on the banjo is like a bellows that expands and contracts. Subtle plucks to the double bass mark a stealthy and haunting rhythm in “Jagged Horizon”. In “Wayward” the tongue drum emerge along with delicate guitar notes. In “Rest House” the parsimonious acoustic guitar chords reveal a calm atmosphere. While in “The Day Before” the bow rubs on the banjo producing a sliding and complex dialogue. The album's closing track "So It Remains" continues to unfold the effects on the strings like a tidal sea of sound waves.
Cartwright crafted an elaborate and careful job of creating fine acoustic and electronic textures, incorporating the sonic environment.
