El curador, productor, artista visual, intérprete y organizador Authentically Plastic, así también activista y defensor de la diversidad sexual, quien reside en la capital de Uganda, Kampala, se ha convertido en uno de los artistas más destacados de la música dance underground en África. Kampala se ha convertido en el centro neurálgico para esta música que alberga Nyege Nyege, un festival masivo con artistas y productores locales e internacionales.

Nuestro protagonista lidera el colectivo ANTI-MASS que organiza raves y pincha 

techno duro, house, pop y el singular estilo gqom (estilo que surgió a principios de la década de 2010 en Durban, Sudáfrica). ANTI-MASS es también un punto de encuentro de un variopinto de personas que representa la diversidad sexual de la ciudad. Authentically Plastic se presenta en sus actuaciones con atuendos de drag queen en un tono desenfadado ante la autoridad y derrochando gran energía. 

En relación a lo que inspira su música él menciona: “Me gusta mucho esta idea de un ‘arma sónica’. Si sientes oscuridad y tensión allí, probablemente provenga de esta angustia que siento hacia el estado, hacia todos estos modos familiares de control social, hacia el capital occidental”. “Raw Space” es una mezcla de la danza ugandesa kadodi, los beats polirítmicos de la drum machine con acercamientos al industrial y el techno minimalista de Detroit. Con esta amalgama musical, los ritmos convulsos y las ráfagas de chirridos a través de los sintetizadores, Authentically Plastic mantiene una tensión permanente y acelerados beats que insinúan una danza tribal e hipnótica que propende a explorar la mente del oyente. Nuestro protagonista en este disco tanto propone una estructura mecánica de los ritmos, como la plasticidad de una propuesta innovadora que está marcando un precedente en la música del continente africano.

Curator, producer, visual artist, performer and organizer Authentically Plastic, as well as activist and advocate for sexual diversity, who lives in the Ugandan capital Kampala, has become one of the most prominent artists in underground dance music in Africa. Kampala has become the hub for this music hosting Nyege Nyege, a massive festival featuring local and international artists and producers.

Our protagonist leads the ANTI-MASS collective that organizes raves and DJs

hard techno, house, pop and the unique gqom style (a style that emerged in the early 2010s in Durban, South Africa). ANTI-MASS is also a meeting point for a diverse group of people who represent the city's sexual diversity. Authentically Plastic performs in drag queen attire in a tone of nonchalance in the face of authority and exuding great energy.

In relation to what inspires his music he mentions: “I'm really into this idea of a ¡Sonic Weapon.’ If you're sensing darkness and tension there, then it's probably coming from this angst I feel towards the state, towards all these familial modes of social control, towards Western capital.” (okayafrica.com)

“Raw Space” is a mix of Ugandan kadodi dance, the polyrhythmic beats of the drum machine with industrial approaches and minimalist Detroit techno. With this musical amalgamation, the convulsive rhythms and the synths bursts of screeching, Authentically Plastic maintains a permanent tension and accelerated beats that hint at a hypnotic tribal dance that tends to explore the listener's mind. Our protagonist in this album both proposes a mechanical structure of the rhythms, as well as the plasticity of an innovative proposal that is setting a landmark in the music of the African continent.
