Robert Haigh | "Human Remains" | Unseen Worlds | 2022

Robert Haigh | "Human Remains" | Unseen Worlds | 2022

“Like a Shadow”, “Still Life With Moving Parts” y “The Fourth Man” coinciden en su profundidad y ralentizados tiempos.

Junio 2022

This is a new album by Robert Haigh, a British pianist and composer who in the early 80’s launched the dark ambient project Sema, and also under his own name with piano solos. In the mid 80’s he contributed to two Nurse With Wound’s albums and in the '90s several albums were released under the Omni Trio moniker, with a particular ambient/drum'n'bass combination. So far he has released 14 albums, as well as singles and compilation appearances.

"Human Remains" completes the trilogy that begins with "Creatures of the Deep" (2017) and then follows with "Black Sarabande" in 2020, both for the prestigious Brooklyn based Unseen Worlds label.

A new album piano driven ambient music, along with subtle synth lines, consists of thirteen delicately crafted pieces starting with “Beginner's Mind”. It seems that here Haigh touches the keys with such softness that the melody flows along the paths of nostalgia. “Waltz on Treated Wire” displays a beautifully prepared piano along with its own keys, creating rich sonorities. “Contour Lines” and “Rainy Season” evoke the French composer Erik Satie for the elegant and elegiac compositions. “Like a Shadow”, “Still Life With Moving Parts” and “The Fourth Man” coincide in their deepens and slow tempo. The piano and a few electronic effects allow “Lost Albion” to be an immeasurable and wonderful piece. “Baroque Atom” is one of the tracks with more rhythm through its uncanny string sessions. Rounding off the album, “On Terminus Hill” spreads its wings to continue flying high, although the piano notes are suspended as if it were a farewell. Perhaps it bodes well that Robert Haigh is stepping away from music in order to concentrate in painting and other creative projects, he has said.
