Otro nuevo disco de David Lee Myers, artista sonoro y visual residente en Nueva York, quien desde 1988 ha publicado más de cincuenta de discos bajo su propio nombre y como Arcane Device en los sellos Starkland, Important, Cronica, ReR, Line, Silent, Pogus, RRRecords, Staalplaat, Monochrome Vision, entre otras etiquetas. "Lustre" es el primer disco que lanza Myers (revisa la entrevista en loop: http://www.loop.cl/content/view/1941/26/), este año junto con "Xenography", ambos publicados en su sello Pulse Width.
El disco que consiste en nueve tracks, es una combinación de ambient, drone y electrónica experimental. Una vez que lo escuché por primera vez, caigo en el influjo de su onda expansiva a través de baños de sintetizadores que no permiten ver el horizonte. “Castaway” que abre este disco con sus sonidos sintéticos tubulares, profundos y oscuros dan paso a “Gaz des Marais” con espirales retorcidos y sinuosos. “Lustre” que da título a este álbum se sumerge en las aguas del ambient, con sonidos electrónicos acuosos en medio de un espacio calmo. “Totemic and Hereditary” sorprende por su carácter rítmico minimalista que se desenvuelve con toda soltura insinuando un delicado movimiento en el cuerpo. “Peregrination” es un viaje en sí mismo en el que fluyen las líneas de sintetizadores ambientales. “Chromatophores” es una sutil danza de notas polirítmicas sintéticas, mientras que “Periodic Table” - que cierra este álbum - propone un diálogo abstracto junto a pequeños chasquidos que luego se van diluyendo para entrar nuevamente a ese espeso mar de drones.
En la mencionada entrevista, Myers argumenta: “…deseo permitir que los dispositivos ‘canten sus propias canciones’, no sólo procesando la entrada del micrófono o lo que sea, sino también inspirando a esos electrones a moverse como puedan y ver lo que ocurre”. Aquí está la esencia del trabajo de Myers que entrega a través de sus propios dispositivos, inventar o reinventar nuevos sonidos.

The album that consists of nine tracks is a combination of ambient, drone and experimental electronics. Once I hear it for the first time, I fall under the predomination through baths of synthesizers that do not allow to see the horizon. “Castaway” the opener of this album with its tubular, deep and dark synthetic sounds, giving way to “Gaz des Marais” with its twisted and sinuous spirals. “Lustre”, which gives this album its title, plunges into the waters of ambient, with aqueous electronic sounds in the middle of a calm space. “Totemic and Hereditary” surprises with its minimalist rhythmic character that unfolds with ease, insinuating a delicate movement in the body. “Peregrination” is a journey in itself in which the ambient synth lines flow. “Chromatophores” is a subtle dance of synthetic polyrhythmic notes, whereas “Periodic Table” - which closes this album - proposes an abstract dialogue along with small clicks that later fade to enter that thick sea of drones.
In the aforementioned interview, Myers argues: "... I wish to allow devices to ‘sing their own songs’ - not just processing microphone input or whatever, but inspiring those electrons to move about as they may and see what occurs." Here is the essence of Myers' work when he delivers through his own devices, inventing or reinventing new sounds.
