Tenemos aquí a dos legendarios artistas que inician sus carreras musicales en los ’70, destacando en la escena de vanguardia. Rhys Chatham es un compositor, guitarrista, trompetista y flautista de Nueva York que actualmente vive en París y es un reconocido músico que toma elementos del minimalismo y lo combina con el punk-rock. Comenzó con Guitar Trio en la década de 1970 y destacó con A Crimson Grail, proyecto comisionado en 2009 por la ciudad de París en la que se reunieron 400 guitarristas.

El francés Ghédalia Tazartès, fallecido en febrero de 2021, fue un personaje inclasificable que trabaja con distintos géneros musicales y artísticos, desde la musique concrète a la música étnica, de la poesía al ruido, de los loops y collages a melodías tristes y delicadamente bellas. Su peculiar forma de cantar-gemir, susurrar, balbucear e incluso alzar la voz y gritar, se convierte en un instrumento en si mismo. 

Tazartès y Chatham se conocieron por primera vez en 1977 en la mítica sala de conciertos CBGC. Algunas décadas más tarde, en 2018, realizaron un show privado en París, oportunidad en la que se grabó “Two Men In A Boat”.

En este disco prevalecen los acordes vacilantes de guitarra y una susurrante flauta, en tanto la voz soterrada y grave de Tazartès es un canto fúnebre inquietante que se cubre de una textura oscura, pero sobre todo cautivante pues se manifiesta como un mantra. 

La música de Chatham y Tazartès es inclasificable e invita al oyente a una experiencia auditiva, donde los sonidos fluyen desde la improvisación a través de registros vocales impredecibles.

This are two legendary artists who start their musical careers in the '70s, standing out in the avant-garde scene. Rhys Chatham is a New York composer, guitarist, trumpeter and flute player currently living in Paris and is a renowned musician who takes elements of minimalism and combines it with punk-rock. He started with Guitar Trio in the 1970s and stood out with A Crimson Grail, a project commissioned in 2009 by the City of Paris in which 400 guitarists gathered.

French Ghédalia Tazartès, who died in February 2021, was an unclassifiable character who works with different musical and artistic genres, from musique concrète to ethnic music, from poetry to noise, from loops and collages to sad and delicately beautiful melodies. His peculiar way of singing-moaning, whispering, babbling and even raising his voice and shouting, becomes an instrument itself.

Tazartès and Chatham met for the first time in 1977 at the legendary venue CBGC. A few decades later, in 2018, they performed a private show in Paris, an opportunity in which “Two Men In A Boat” was recorded.

Hesitant guitar chords and a whispering flute prevail on this album, while Tazartès's buried and deep voice is a haunting dirge covered in a dark texture, but above all captivating as it manifests itself as a mantra.

Chatham and Tazartès’s music is unclassifiable and invites the listener to an auditory experience, where sounds flow from improvisation through unpredictable vocal registers.
