Chris Watson / Georgia Rodgers | "Notes from the Forest Floor / Line of Parts LP SN Variations | 2020

“Notes From The Forest Floor" compuesto por Chris Watson y "Line Of Parts" de Georgia Rodgers, fueron originalmente instalaciones multicanal.

En “Notes From…”

Chris Watson was a founding member in 1973 of the iconic Sheffield experimental band Cabaret Voltaire. Since then he has developed a particular interest in recording sounds of wildlife from animals and habitats around the world, becoming one of the most important Field Recordists.

Georgia Rodgers is an electronic instrumental music composer whose work focuses on the textures and spatial aspects of sound.

"Notes From The Forest Floor" composed by Chris Watson and Georgia Rodgers "Line Of Parts" were originally multi-channel installations.

"Notes From The Forest Floor" premiered in July 2015 at ICA London as part of an evening event dedicated to the work of Italian composer Giacinto Scelsi. This composition was recorded by Watson in La Selva Tropical Rainforest Reserve, Costa Rica, 11th December 2019, where he captured the wild life and other environmental sounds.

"Line Of Parts" was originally premiered at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in 2019 as part of the Huddersfield Professional Development Programme for Female Composers of Electronic Music project. This composition was made together with the Huddersfield Immersive Sound System (HISS), using its network of 48 channels and 66 speakers. This work consists of field recordings made in the Cairngorms and North London, sine waves and voice.

On “Notes From…” Watson captures the essence of the wild life of that tropical forest. Along with the sounds of insects, crickets, birds, monkeys, emerges the terrified guttural sound of some animal that makes listening more disturbing, while intermittent electronic sounds are appreciated as a backdrop. On "Line Of Parts", the hit of the water on a metal roof is mixed with the sounds of insects and geese. Then sine waves unfold in space like an eternal drone, ending with the drops hitting metal. The environment is cold, dark and silent.
