Asoma con ‘Above the High Rays’ [Feeding

¿Tienes alguna proyectos paralelos
leer o tocar partituras. Finalmente me puse contenta porque aprendí a tocarlas;
sonoras. ‘Above the High Rays’ fue
Últimamente he estado escuchando mucho a Lee Hazlewood,

Which are the sounds would you like to explore?
“I really like the simplicity of
the preset sounds one finds in these kind of keyboards. It has a certain
melancholy to it. I sometimes compose on my piano, but always change the sounds
when recording. Piano has too much drama to it, often also unnecessary drama.
As for the kind of music I make, I
guess it's a brew of all things I'm influenced by. music from my youth, music I
hear around, but also certain dreams, smells, silence, the subconscious, the
universe. The first 7" [‘Miaux', Ultra Eczema, 2011] I recorded when I had become a
mother, while my baby was sleeping. The silence and not going out or seeing
other shows, was a good exploration.”
Do you have any side-projects?
“I recently studied Bach's
Goldberg Variations for a friend's release (Lieven Martens Moana). That was
something different because I usually don't like to read or play scores. At the
end I was happy I learned how to play it because the aria is beautiful and I'm
sure it's gonna be good on the record.”
‘Above The High Rays’ first song is a kind of reworked of 2013’s
‘Aeronaut’’s ‘Canyon Eye’ song?
“Hm, funny, I never thought of those
songs having a similarity. If it would have crossed my mind, I probably
wouldn't have recorded it. The first part of ‘Above The High Rays’ is in a key
mineur, while ‘Canyon Eye’ is in majeur. I don't see it.
For me the beginning of ‘Above The
High Rays’, is the beginning of the film 'Paris Qui Dort’ [1925
French science fiction comedy silent short film directed by René Clair], a man is all
alone in a world where everything has stopped moving. It's a sound of being
lonely yet curious, because being alone can also be a good thing.
‘Canyon Eye’ is such a warm song
with sand, orange sun and sweat. With some dizzyness.
Anyway, interesting you find those
two similar.”
Do you work with other art forms?
“I would love to make more
soundtracks. ‘Above The High Rays’ was the first bigger one, and I really
enjoyed it. It was nice to be influenced by images."
It seams your musical influences come from the 70’s. Which are your
influences right now?
“70's and early 80's were
definately very present in my upbringing as my dad listened to great stuff. I
guess I never let go of the old stuff. I must say I don't really know what
influences me right now. Making new stuff is a weird process because some
days/weeks/months nothing comes out and other times a song is written in one
evening. I really like the idea (even if it's just my impression) of not being
directly influenced as if it comes from somewhere in the subconscious. Lately I've
been listening quite a lot to lee hazlewood, nick drake, black sabbath and -
because of my daughter - crazy children's pop music.”
